Uganda Wildlife Safari Adventures For Families And All Ages

Uganda wildlife is among the key tourist attraction to this beautiful country commonly known as the pearl of Africa. Most times however people are left out especially those with children thinking they can’t go on Safari with them.

1. Horseback Riding In Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is located in western Uganda and one of the leading Uganda wildlife safari destination. The park has various wildlife commonly seen being zebras, giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes and many bird species.

The Park is the only place in Uganda where horseback riding is done an incredible way for wildlife viewing. This Uganda wildlife adventure can also be done by children preferably from 12 years enabling them to enjoy nature. The most beautiful thing about horseback riding is that its very peaceful without noise of a car engine.

2. Safari Game drives

About 6 out of 10 Uganda wildlife safari destinations are Savanna national parks where safari game drives are done. Safari game drives are often done in well developed trails looking for wildlife like elephants, buffaloes and many antelope species.

Game drives are family wildlife activities you can opt for while on a visit with children. This is done in comfort and safety of the safari vehicle where children get to enjoy wildlife. With a big family, use extended land cruisers of vans that can take up to 7 people at once.

The good news is children between 5 to 15 years have discounted rates and those below 5 years are exempted. Don’t fear to go with the young ones on a safari as they will equally have a great time.

National parks for Safari game drives include Murchison Falls, Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo Valley and Semuliki Valley national parks. The best time for savanna game drives is in the dry season from June to September and December to March.

3. Boat Cruises

Boat cruises are done Uganda wildlife destinations with lakes and rivers to see wildlife species like hippos and Nile crocodiles. There are also bird species that nest near the shores or river banks making boat cruises ideal for birding.

Boat cruise are also great safari adventures for families as children are also allowed to go for the experience. Everyone is expected to put on a life jacket therefore the children are very safe while on boat cruise.

In Uganda, boat cruise family safaris can be enjoyed in Murchison falls NP to the bottom of the falls. You can also do one to the Nile Delta for birding and scenic views. In Queen Elizabeth National park, you can enjoy family boat cruise on Kazinga channel and in Lake Mburo National Park.

4. Cycling Adventures

Cycling are other family wildlife adventures you can enjoy in Lake Mburo National park. This brings one close to nature with one on one encounters with wildlife species like zebras and antelopes. There are a number of cycling routes in the park enabling one to fully explore wildlife there.

There bikes for hire but incase you have one and prefer to use that, you can go with it. This experience is best if children are from 12 years and know how to cycle. It engages them and helps them exercise as well we exploring nature.
