The 2 days Nyiragongo Hike enables you explore mount Nyiragongo one of East and Central Africa’s active Volcanic Mountain. The mountain Hike takes you through the lower mountain slopes that are forested. Here you get to see some wildlife and birds species enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. The 2 days Nyiragongo Hike is a great adventure to take on. Mount Nyiragongo is part of Virunga national park Africa’s oldest national park.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nyiragongo Hike
Be picked up from your Gome Hotel and head to Kibati for a briefing ahead of the Nyiragongo Hike. In-case you spend a night in Gisenyi Rwanda you must be at the Grande Barriere border crossing by 7:00am and check-in with Virunga tourism office by 8:00am on the morning of the scheduled trek. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control. During check-in, guests will be provided with a volcano trek permit that must be presented before climbing.
Once check-in is complete, guests will be transported to Kibati Ranger Post, starting point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. The ascent up the volcano starts around 10:00am with most climbing groups reaching the summit by 5:00pm. Hikers will spend the night on the crater. The night and early morning are best times to see the hot lava.
Day 2: Descend the Volcano
After sightseeing start the Volcano descent around 6:00 am enjoying the mountain scenery. Once at the bottom, guests will be taken back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere.
